Minus the set which was set of 7 for the Media Library room and the second one allocated to Middle School, I have deployed all the thin clients as per the accepted proposals. All thin clients allow for both Middle and High School students to log into them. The username/password standard is detailed below and the login names are attached to this email. This list will help in those cases where the student has a hyphenated last name or long lastname.
So far the reports are positive. As it stands right now the functions below are expected to work. We can expand this for the larger deployment should we move forward.
Here is the features/functionality you should expect in these stations:
- Filtered Internet access as is available on current student laptops
- A personal account for each student which provides limited storage space for word processing/spreadsheet files
- Access to a Firstclass account for the high school students
- Word Processing software (Using OpenOffice) which is compatible with Word files
- Spreadsheet software (Using OpenOffice) which is compatible with Excel files
- Presentation software (Using OpenOffice) which is compatible with Powerpoint files
- Printer access initially to Front Desk/Middle School printer only.
- Students can/should use thumb drives as the primary backup method as I am not backing this server up for this pilot deployment.
